Most Western woman have their last menstruation between their fortieth and sixtieth year; the average age is 51. The name of the last menstruation is the menopause. Before and after the menopause is a period in which the hormones try to find a new balance. This period is called the climacterium; the duration is different for every woman. Irregular menstruations, hot flushes and perspiration-attacks are symptoms that naturally appear during the climacterium and will eventually stop. But the intensity of the symptoms can be different for every woman and if the they cause problems for you, it might be a good idea to take medication.
