Post-traumatic dystrophy

Various treatments are available. CRPS is different for everyone. Sometimes CRPS can be treated with painkillers and physiotherapy. Sometimes more extensive treatment is needed. The doctor will therefore discuss with you which treatment best suits your symptoms. Treatment can consist of several components.

Medicine

During your treatment, you will be given painkillers. If you have cold CRPS, you may also be given medication to improve your blood flow.

Physiotherapy

The physiotherapist will help you find a balance in the amount of pain and movement. This way, you don't use your arm or leg too much or too little. By paying attention to how much you move your arm or leg, you will suffer less from CRPS and the symptoms may disappear sooner.

Psychologist

CRPS can have a lot of impact on your daily life and mental health. A psychologist can help you learn to cope with your illness.

Occupational therapy

If you have long-term symptoms of CRPS, an occupational therapist can help you learn to cope with the problems you experience in daily life due to CRPS. The occupational therapist will help you to do as much as possible yourself despite your symptoms.

Other pain treatment

If pain relief does not help, the pain specialist can help you control pain better. This can be done with electric currents or with a pain blockade: numbing a nerve.

Treatment

A ganglion cannot cause any harm. You can wait and see if it disappears on its own. A ganglion disappears by itself in half of people but can sometimes come back.

Treatment is usually not necessary.

Operation
Sometimes a ganglion continues to cause many symptoms. For example, pain or reduced mobility. An operation may then help. This involves removing the ganglion.
