A former general practitioner, Yvonne Winants has increasingly focused on integrative medicine, trauma and psychotherapy and (partner) relationship therapy since 2002.
She chose this path of development because her experience as a doctor, social worker and person made it clear, that a broader perspective on illness and health offers many more starting points to work on recovery. Currently, she is still attached to the Medical Faculty (FHML) of Maastricht University as a lecturer and coach and works as an independent coach and doctor/therapist in her own practice. Much attention is paid to underlying stress problems and impending burnout. www.praktijkwavewinants.nl.
Focus in my approach is the person behind the complaint. Together, we try to place complaint or medical problem in the broader context of your life and start to eliminate stressors and factors impeding recovery as much as possible. Sometimes working away does not succeed, as in the case of major loss experiences, setbacks or other (life) changes. Then the focus of treatment is on learning to cope better and more constructively with the current or new situation.
Recent research, especially in neuroscience, has shown that life events, setbacks or disappointments can often have long-lasting effects on people's bodies and minds.
Besides studying medicine at UU University in Utrecht and vocational training to become a general practitioner in Utrecht, she did a PhD at Maastricht University, which culminated in the thesis "Coassistantships as initiation rites in the medical professional culture".
After 2002, several RINO courses such as psychoanalytic therapy, family and partner relationship therapy followed and she did the 4-year international training of Past Reality Integration (PRI) coaching and therapy in France.
In addition, she has followed a lot of (post-)education in the field of psychosomatics on the intense interaction between body and mind and is at home in the field of body-oriented forms of therapy.
