The melanoma often is a pigmented skin cancer and stands out because of its dark colour. This form of cancer consists of pigment cells (melanocytes). It can be a completely new patch or the melanoma arises from an existing birthmark. Common symptoms are: growth, itching, pain or spontaneous bleeding. However, the melanoma can also lack symptoms.
