Leg ulcer

An ulcus cruris is also called a leg ulcer. This is a wound on the lower leg. This wound is not healing and is often present for months, sometimes even years. Among the elderly, about 2% suffers from a leg ulcer. The causes are multiple. Generally, there is a problem with the blood vessels of the leg. These have to be checked carefully before choosing an adequate treatment. This can facilitate the healing of the wound.

What’s most important, is the fluid (leg edema) leaves the leg. When the leg contains less fluid, the leg ulcer usually heals on its own. This can be done in several different ways: bandage, stocking, varicose vein treatment. The dermatologist will discuss with you which treatment is applicable and will be started.
